At earlySTEMer, we’re dedicated to empowering the next generation of innovators to shape the future of technology. We had the privilege of mentoring two extraordinary teams of girls as they participated in the 2024 Technovation Challenge—a global initiative to bridge the gender gap in STEM.
The 2024 Journey: Teams We Mentored
From January 31 to April 23, we worked alongside two incredibly talented teams as they turned their ideas intro impactful technological solutions:
Team Innovatrix
Members: Rolake Ajiboye and Priscilla Lawal
Innovatrix brought their vision to life with Quivita, a mobile app designed to help students organize their tasks and manage their academic schedules with ease. This app is more than just a planner; it’s a tool to streamline tasks and foster productivity, ensuring students stay on top of their educational goals.
Team Shielding Sisterhood
Members: Fareedah Kazeem-Gbadamosi, Ebunoluwa Akinloye, Oreoluwa Akinloye, and Fareedah Bello.
Shielding Sisterhood created Bully Begone, an innovative app connecting victims of bullying with counsellors via UNICEF. The app features advanced screening to identify and filter offensive languages, empowering users to understand and navigate negative interactions effectively. It’s a step toward creating safer spaces for young people.
Both teams showcased remarkable creativity and technical skills. Their hard work paid off with impressive quarterfinal scores- 52.4 for Innovatrix and 51.33 for Shielding Sisterhood. While they didn’t advance to the semifinals, their commitment, innovation and growth throughout the journey were nothing short of inspiring. We couldn’t be prouder of their effort and hard work!
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning. At earlySTEMer, we believe in the power of mentorship to unlock potential. Next year, we’re setting our sights even higher, aiming to mentor more teams and inspire more girls to embrace technology as a tool for addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.

About Technovation Challenge
The Technovation Challenge, founded in 2006 by aerospace engineer Tara Chklovski, has grown from local Family Science Nights in Los Angeles to a global nonprofit with a presence in over 100 countries. The challenge empowers girls to tackle real-world problems through technology by developing mobile and web apps.
Participants work with mentors to explore themes such as poverty, peace, equality, and more. For the 2024 challenge, the spotlight was on integrating AI into technology, encouraging participants to push boundaries and innovate in meaningful ways.
These young trailblazers gain invaluable skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership, setting them up for success in STEM fields and beyond.
